Should schools have hair regulations?

A student in Ireland was recently awarded over €3,000 by a court because he was unfairly discriminated against when suspended for failing to cut his hair to an acceptable length. Meanwhile, some schools in the US have set a rule to say that students must keep their natural hair colour.

What do you think, should schools be allowed to set a code of what is acceptable for hair?

What about students who colour their hair? Is it okay to have pink or blue hair in school? And what about a mohican?

€3,500 for pupil suspended over long hair Irish Independent

School bans dye, hats, bandannas for students Detroit Free Press

So....What do you think - Should schools have regulations to cover what is allowed and what is not?? (Comment below)

Calling all teachers who blog to share their experiences!

This is a call for all teachers who blog to share their experiences of blogging in the classroom.

Blogs are defined as online journals, where users can post thoughts, news or comments in a chronological format.

More and more teachers are now using blogs to help deliver lessons in a more dynamic way. Blogs enable teachers to create learning resources that can incorporate video, audio, links to educational content and student work. But the real power of blogs comes in the form of extending classroom discussion and facilitating reflection amongst students.

If you are a teacher considering setting up a blog or if you have done so already, we'd like to hear from you. We'd like you to share your insights into how to go about it and what successes and pitfalls you've encountered along the way.

  Share your experiences . . .

Should we rescue endangered words?

This argument is aimed at post-primary students.

Olid, nitid and fusby are 3 of the 24 words listed by Collins Dictionary as "endangered". With the introduction of 2000 new words to the forthcoming dictionary, older, lesser used words are in danger of being left out. In an attempt to rescue these words celebrities have taken up the challenge of saving a word from extinction.

Do you think these words are worth saving or would you prefer to make room for more up-to-date and frequently used words.

Check out the following links for afull list of these words and for information that will help you fomr your opinion.

Collins dictionary asks public to rescue outdated words.
